News . . . <= /span>For the most part, this summer has been a good one on the farm. It is a good thing however that we= are on high ground with all the rain. The June/July totals are neck and neck with those in 2008 with over = 16 inches of rain! Our yard show= s it as mowing has been put off due to the wet sponge-like qualities of the ground.

With the Rain and the heat, Annie and I have foc= used a little on some indoor activities such as a much needed overhaul of our kitchen. I spent what seemed = to be days on my knees with a grinder leveling out the old floor for the cement b= oard underlayment for the tile floor. This old body doesn’t like to do that kind of thing any more!<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> We both will be glad to see that p= roject done as our “eternal” remodel on this old house needs to see so= me progress. As a side note, the “west wing” of our house that now contains the kitchen, was add= ed somewhere around 1923 as a “summer home” for the family of Allen Ludden when he was a boy. Us = old timers remember Allen Ludden as the host of the TV show Password. He also was married to actress Bet= ty White .

State of the Gardens address . . . In general, the gardens took a hit with the heat and excess rain but = that is not totally out of the norm. The late summer planting is taking place as the temperatures are coming down a = bit as evidenced by the very comfortable night we enjoyed last night. This means you will hopefully be g= etting some cool weather items like lettuce and radishes again. We also hope to extend our season = beyond the normal end date and share the wealth of an abundant fall harvest. We’ll keep you posted on that. We also expect the swee= t corn to be ready as early as next week (this has been planted by one of our members).

= Closing Thoughts . . . Our fall schedu= le includes the traveling shows that we do in the southern part of the state.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> We’ll be hitching up the old= 5^th wheel camper and heading down the road fully loaded with the products we se= ll at the numerous steam shows and swap meets during August and September. Due to this, we may have to make o= ur deliveries on Wednesdays some weeks but we will let you know in advance. You may also have seen that this newsletter is not coming to you every week and the last one was just in pri= nt and never got emailed. There = is just too much going on for us to get it out every week so it looks like eve= ry other week will be the norm from now on.&n= bsp; I will hopefully be getting this one emailed in the next few minutes.
